My piece 'Summer Night' is an original sunset painting of a quiet summer evening where pine trees, across the land, watch the beautiful sunset. A deep blue background is painted traditionally that gradually becomes lighter toward the setting sun. A pale yellow to stark white horizon shows the light source at the bottom right of the canvas. I added little white speckles to show twinkling stars at the top before pouring cloud designs.
I chose a complementary scheme that allows the colors to work together well; a dark foreground with green off in the distance. I did this to show the sunset departing off in the far right corner while the far away trees are lighter in the setting sun's light with intense shadows. The sun kisses the edges of the greenery and rolling hills have a soft yellow accent.
